If you press certain key combinations, you can perform actions that normally require a mouse, trackpad or other input device.   To use a quick function, press and hold one or more change keys, and then press the last key of the function. For example, to use Command-C (copy), press and hold the Command key, then press the C key and then release the two keys. Mac menus and keyboards typically use symbols for certain keys, including the following modification keys:   Command (or Cmd) ⌘ Uppercase ⇧ Option (or Alt) ⌥ Control (or Ctrl) ^ Blocking Uppercase ⇪ Fn   On keyboards manufactured for Windows PCs, use the Alt key instead of the Option key, and the key with the Windows logo instead of the Command key.   Some keys on Apple keyboards have special symbols and functions, such as adjusting the brightness of the screen, keyboard brightness, Mission Control and more. If these functions are not available on your keyboard, you may be able to play some of them by creating your own keyboard functions. To use these keys as F1, F2, F3 or other standard function keys, combine them with the Fn key.       Cut, copy, paste and other usual quick functions X-Command: cut the selected item and copy it to the Clipboard. Command-C: copy the selected item to the Clipboard. This also works with the Finder files. Command-V: Paste the contents of the Clipboard into the document or the active app. This also works with the Finder files. Command-Z: undo the previous command. Then you can press Shift-Command-Z to Redo, this will reverse the Undo command. In some apps, you can undo and redo multiple commands. Command-A: select all the elements. Command-F: find items in a document or open a search window. Command-G: search next, that is, search for the next occurrence of the previously searched item. To find the previous occurrence, press Shift-Command-G. Command-H: hide the windows of the app in the foreground. To see the app in the foreground and hide the other apps, press Option-Command-H. Command-M: minimize the window that is in the foreground to the Dock. To minimize all app windows in the foreground, press Option-Command-M. Command-O: open the selected item, or open a dialog box to select the file to be opened. Command-P: print the active document. S-Command: save the active document. Command-T: open a new tab. Command-W: close the window that is in the foreground. To close all the windows of the app, press Option-Command-W. Option-Command-Esc: force the exit of an app. Command-Spacebar: show or hide the Spotlight search field. To perform a Spotlight search from a Finder window, press Command-Option-Spacebar. Control-Command-Spacebar: display the Keyboard Viewer, from which you can select emoji and other symbols. Control-Command-F: use the app in full screen if it allows it. Space bar: use Quick view to see the preview of the selected item. Command-Tab: Switch to the most recently used app among the apps you have open. Shift-Command-5: in macOS Mojave, perform a screen capture or a screen recording. In previous versions of macOS, use Shift-Command-3 or Shift-Command-4 to take screenshots. Get more information about screenshots. Shift-Command-N: create a new folder in the Finder. Comma-Comma (,): open the preferences of the app that is in the foreground. Quick functions of rest, close session and turn off You may have to hold down some of these quick functions for a little longer than others. This helps prevent you from accidentally using them. (you can to go to easyduplicatefinder.com for more info) Power button or Touch ID sensor: press to turn on the Mac or exit sleep mode. Press it for 1.5 seconds while the Mac is on to put it in sleep mode. * Keep holding it down to completely turn off the Mac. Option-Command-Power button * u Option-Command-Eject disk: put the Mac in idle mode. Control-Shift-Power button * or Control-Shift-Eject discs: set the screen to idle. Control-Power button * or Control-Disk ejection: display a dialog asking if you want to restart, shut down or put to sleep. Control-Command-Power Button *: Force the restart of the Mac without asking if you want to save the documents open and without saving.
